EGYPTIAN TOURISM FOR ALL: The old church of the crypt of St. Sergius

The Church of St. Sergius and Bacchus, are two early Christian martyrs from Syria, but the church is the fame of St. Sergius, is located in the old quarter of Cairo (Misr El Qadima). The church is considered the oldest in Egypt and dating from the late third century and early fourth century. Orthodox believe strongly that the Holy Family took refuge in the crypt behind the shrine before leaving Egypt on his way back to Palestine. when Herod died who were chasing them from their flight from Bethlehem to Egypt to Sinai by standing for three years at several sites within Egypt and what we call today the steps of the journey of the Holy Family, and come many Russians, Greeks and Egyptians pilgrimage from northern to southern Egypt, visiting all stops considered sacred

The church has been much affected by the fires that burned the city of Fustat, during the Crusades, so it was rebuilt later. Many of the Patriarchs of Alexandria were chosen here.
Of particular interest in the church basilica is the style of architecture with a wooden altar iconostasis, three sanctuaries and the Crypt of the Virgin from behind. The inlaid woodwork in the central part of the iconostasis dates back to the time of Sultan Qaytbay from the Islamic period in the fifteenth century. One of the most notable signs of the impact of Islamic Mamluk style of decoration of this church appears in the geometric patterns that adorn the roof support panel of the church.
The interior of the church plan consists of corridors that surround the central nave supported by columns that contained pictures of Apostles. The Crypt of the Virgin used to be flooded by groundwater.

The nave roof is shaped like a boat representing the prophet Noeh rescue, are relics of saints in the church

Inside the church there are two lecterns, one for the holy book in Arabic and one for the holy book in Coptic because sometimes some parents recite the holy book in coptic, the language is a mix between the hieroglyphic and Greek .Christians have invented because they were persecuted by the Roman ,to know each other in secret to avoid the romans

The church do a table on Sunday and Friday until eleven o'clock that sometimes do not let the tourists enter before eleven
